Acting on information received, police recently arrested two people for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Officers from the Newcastle Public Order Policing (POP) Unit Task Team swooped on two homes in Injisuthi near Loskop on January 8.
During the first search, police recovered an AK-47 rifle and 26 rounds of ammunition. A 58-year-old man was immediately arrested. Another arrest was made at the second home.
“The second suspect, who is 35 years old, was arrested for possession of a 9mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.
Both suspects appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on January 10, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The firearms will be sent off for ballistic testing to see if they have been used to commit any crimes in the country.
