Overgrown verges continue to plague Estcourt

Overgrown verges take over sidewalks

Every year during the warmer, wetter months, residents are plagued by overgrown verges in residential areas, as well as central business district sidewalks. 2020 is no different.

Overgrown weeds and grass is taking over many sidewalks and there doesn’t seem to be any relief.  Last year December, the Estcourt News requested Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality’s plan for service delivery, specifically over the holiday period when there is an influx of visitors passing through town.

One of the points raised was the verge-trimming schedule, where the municipality was asked to reveal which areas would be covered and the dates on which this would be done.

Nothing has since been received from the municipality. Meanwhile, in addition to paying for municipal services that include the maintenance of verges, locals have had to take on the additional cost of trimming verges.
