10 life sentences for rapists in KZN

From December 1 to 31. 356 suspects were arrested and 14 have been convicted and sentenced

Being raped is one of the worst things that could happen to anyone, and many rapists are still on the prowl.

With that in mind, detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in the province wrapped up 2019 with a total of 10 life sentences plus a further 51 years’ imprisonment for accused who were tried and convicted of sexual-related offences from December 1 to 31.

In a number of cases where the victims were aged between one and 90 years old, 356 suspects were arrested and 14 have been convicted and sentenced. The ages of the accused range from 26 to 52.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, applauded the investigators for ensuring that gender-based violence cases are solved and the perpetrators prosecuted.
