The Mdlalose family in eMondlo is reeling in shock, after discovering their missing daughter reportedly died in a collision last week.

The family reported Lindokuhle Mdlalose (29) missing after she failed to return home on January 5. She had accompanied a friend, who was taking a child to Newcastle.

After a week of searching, the family received news that Lindokuhle was among the ten killed in the horror collision.

“We then called the child they were taking to Newcastle, who told us Lindokuhle and her friend were in an accident. They had given a lift to hitchhikers on their way back to Vryheid. One of the hitchhikers was in a coma and when she came to, she told us what happened and that our daughter passed away in that accident,” said aunt, Beauty Thungo.

Beauty said funeral arrangement had not yet been finalised, as the family was awaiting DNA results.

“We are very sure it is indeed our daughter, but we have to wait for DNA. The police even refused to let us see her remains due to the condition she was in, and told us seeing her would traumatise us for life. They asked us to be patient and wait for the results to come back.

“We are very saddened, traumatised and in shock. We did not expect this; we had hopes we would soon find her still alive. There is no way to express our grief at this point. We are grateful to everyone who assisted us when we were busy looking for her, but unfortunately she was taken from us. Only God knows how we will get over the excruciating pain we are in.”

SAPS failed to provide comment on the matter by time of going to print this week.
