Stock Theft Unit warns against impostors demanding money

"This is a serious problem. SAPS, as a Government entity, will never ask the public for money."

The Glencoe Stock Theft Unit has cautioned those reporting stolen livestock not to be conned into paying police impostors to investigate their case.

Captain Amanda Bezuidenhout of the unit said they had received several complaints from stock owners, who had received calls from ‘investigators’ asking for payment to ensure cattle were recovered.

“This is a serious problem. SAPS, as a Government entity, will never ask the public for money. We will never require any manner of payment or compensation to recover stolen cattle.”

She urged members of the community not to make payments or issue banking details to those demanding money, but to instead make contact with the investigating officer handling their case immediately.
