Festive season death toll and crashes in Ladysmith region

4 people died on the N3 and 1 in the Burford area

The festive season is a time when many families take to the roads as they embark on long journeys to pre-planned holiday destinations. In their masses, people head past Ladysmith as they rocket towards the coast or in the other direction to Johannesburg.

This high traffic volume over the festive season inevitably brings with it more crashes and loss of life.

There were 30 crashes and five road fatalities in the Ladysmith region during the festive season.

Four people died on the N3 and one in the Burford area.

A fatal crash in Harrismith Road sent shock waves through the community. This accident saw a taxi ploughing into the back of a stationary bus at the intersection of Francis and Harrismith Road.

One person sadly lost their life.

According to officials, there was a 37.25% drop in fatalities this past festive period in the region.
