1. 1984 was declared National Road Safety Year and a clamp down on road offences was envisaged, starting with the use of seatbelts.

2. The Class of 1983 were congratulated on their matric passes.

3. Cutworm was rearing its head in gardens and farms. Cutworm is a greasy-looking caterpillar that damages seedlings.

4. A 15-year-old boy, Vannah Bassingthwaite died in the swimming pool at the Midlands Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
