How to host a New Year’s Eve party on a budget

In these tough economic times, a party can become quite costly, especially if you are hosting it

New Year’s Eve is the most anticipated time of the year and is celebrated all over the world. Every person in the world – from Time’s Square to small villages – finds a way to celebrate.

However, in these tough economic times, a party can become quite costly, especially if you are the one hosting it. So, if you are thinking about hosting a New Year’s Eve party, but worrying about what it will do to your pocket, here are a few tips on how you can have a party on a budget:

Host the party after dinnertime; ask your guests to bring their own drinks; and allocate a certain snack to each person.

  1. They may be silly, but people still love the traditional New Year’s Eve party items such as noisemakers, hats, tiaras and horns. Put these items on a platter or in a big decorative bowl and let people grab items as they wish.
  2. Be creative about the countdown. You can pop a balloon for every second, starting at 10.
  3. Go old-school and create a custom CD with all of your guests’ favourites! Burn extra CDs for your guests. Or search for New Year’s playlists on Spotify or YouTube.
  4. Dim your lights to make it a bit romantic for your guests.

Now you can enjoy a great party that doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket!
