A day of community upliftment at St Anthony’s

The different organisations and companies managed to raise just over R6 000 for the centre's children.

Christmas came early for St. Anthony’s Child and Youth Care Centre in Blaauwbosch, when they were visited by the YESforYouth group, the Department of Science and Technology’s National Youth Service, and the ArcelorMittal Science Centre on December 6.

The different organisations are business-driven initiatives of Government and labour, which collaborate with corporate businesses to address the country’s youth unemployment challenge and build a sustainable economic pathway for the youth.

St Anthony’s receives early Christmas gift.

It was a day of giving as the different organisations and companies managed to raise just over R6 000 and donated school uniforms, crockery and snacks for the children at the centre. The young children also participated in fun educational games. YESforYouth member, Nthabiseng Moloi said their mentors emphasised community service as part of capacity building:

“We are taught to offer help without expecting anything in return. We then decided to host a science day at the care centre. The centre cares for children from different backgrounds including abuse victims, abandoned and orphaned children. Our lives have been touched in different positive ways by our funders; we felt obliged to do the same and add hope to the children of St Anthony’s. We wish them a fantastic festive season and a happy New Year.”

Activities of the day included a puppet show, which was focused on water awareness. There was also a science show which taught children about sound and numbers; plus exhibitions and career information. The organisers thanked all sponsors for their kind donations.
