‘Tis not the season to dump your dogs

The AACL urges all pet owners to love their animals and make sure they are in a safe and looked-after environment this festive season

The festive season is here and many of us are preparing to have parties, spend quality time with loved ones or go on holiday. You would never just leave your pet behind, much less dump them at the side of the road, would you?

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) urges all pet owners to keep their dogs in their yards during the festive season and not dump them at the kennels or anywhere else.

According to the league, many pet owners go on holiday and have nobody to look after their animals, so they decide to drop them off unannounced at the kennels or leave them roaming the streets.

This is unacceptable! The kennels are fully booked for the festive season, so people need to make other arrangements for their animals if they are planning to go away.

As we finish off our Christmas shopping and prepare for visitors or travelling, it is important to keep our pet’s health and safety in mind as well.

This time of year can be very exciting, but it can also often be uncomfortable and unsettling for our four-legged friends, as their environment is changed more and more as people come to visit.

The league urges all pet owners to love their animals and make sure they are in a safe and looked-after environment, and also make sure their pets are under shelter and have plenty of water and food.
