Some tips to counteract load-shedding when it strikes

If you don't want to use candles, then get a solar-powered or battery-operated light so you can find your way in the dark

With load-shedding knocking on our door and leaving us in the dark, here are some tips to help you get through the hours of no electricity.

Remember to have your phone charged. If you forgot, you can always charge it through your laptop or power bank, as most smartphones come with a USB cable that detaches from the plug.

You need to have some sort of light if it’s nighttime. If you don’t want to use candles, then get a solar-powered or battery-operated light so you can find your way in the dark.

If the weather is hot, sip on some water and stay cool by sitting outside in the shade of a tree.

Keep your food products frozen by putting them in a cooler bag until the power comes back on.

Get a surge protector, as these devices will help protect your electrical equipment from surges when the power supply fluctuates. Multi-plugs that let you plug multiple components into one power outlet will do the trick.

Lastly, have some fun by playing ‘old school’ board games or have a braai to pass the time.
