Men face the reality of gender-based violence

Heading the programme was Prince Nhlanganiso Zulu, KZN ambassador for tuberculosis and male medical circumcision.

The farming sector of Siyaphumula and surrounds gathered for social dialogue aimed at empowering men recently.

In this event, a first of its kind for the area, government stakeholders from Endumeni and Kingsley collaborated for Isibaya Samadoda, to discuss and empower men on health maters, the combating of crime and protecting women and children from violence and abuse.

Farm dwellers were excited at the programme, as they were often lacking in access to government services. Heading the programme was Prince Nhlanganiso Zulu, the KwaZulu-Natal ambassador for tuberculosis and male medical circumcision, who explained Isibaya Samadoda was brought about due to the need to capacitate dialogue and groom men to protect women and children.

“This programme began when it was endorsed by my father, King Goodwill Zwelethini, to ensure we spread awareness about male medical circumcision. I am glad most men are heeding our call. As the team of stakeholders, we can’t overlook the issue of gender-based violence our government has been preaching. I call on all men to lead and fight the scourge of violence against women and children.”

A number of stakeholders were present at the event, including representatives of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Kingsley SAPS, Golden Palm, the KZN Department of Health, KZN Community Safety and Liaison, KZN Social Development, the Amajuba CPF/YCPD Cluster, traditional leaders and faith-based leaders.
