Black Friday takes charge of budgets

Many like to take shopping on this day to an extreme sport

Last Friday, Vryheid’s streets and retail shops were flooded with an influx of shoppers, who took advantage of all the Black Friday deals on offer.
According to Internet research, Black Friday refers to the first Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States of America, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November annually.
Since 1952, this has also been considered the first day of the Christmas shopping season.
While the term Black Friday only came into popular use recently, the period itself is regarded as the busiest shopping day of the year.
Many like shopping on this day to an extreme sport.
South Africans first participated in Black Friday in 2012 and today, this day marks one of the biggest shopping sprees in the country.
Retailers decided to open earlier than normal hours and some shoppers camped out in front of shops to get to those Black Friday specials first.
