Lolo Madonsela joins the Vryheid Herald team

"I am looking forward to working with the team. That is where my career began, so it is always a pleasure coming back home because that what it feels like to me - home."

Rejoice Madonsela (34), also known as ‘Lolo’, has joined the Vryheid Herald team.

She will be working alongside Carlien Grobler as journalist at the newspaper.

Lolo, who resides from the outskirt of Vryheid in eMondlo, said her love of news started at a very young age, when she used to mimic Themba Khumalo on her radio show.

Lolo said she was always a bubbly and curious child.

Her Supportive grandparents and family made her fall in love more with the field journalism, despite the fact that in  her childhood it was labelled as a dangerous career.

Lolo credited her grandparents for installing the confidence in her to pursue the field despite the danger.

She is not really a ‘new kid on the block’, having worked with the Vryheid Herald as a freelancer in 2006 and returning in 2007 as a student journalist.

“I can’t really put my fingers on why I love my career, there are many reasons; it teaches one to interact with everyone from any level.

I loved the confidence news reporters had when I listened to them on the radio, and I enjoy writing as well.”

Lolo then moved to other pastures doing what she said she loves the most, freelancing for news agencies and working for different magazines and newspapers including Politicians, Farmers Weekly and the Daily Sun.

She also worked on a number of newsletters for the office of the Mpumalanga Premier.

“I am looking forward to working with the team.

That is where my career began, so it is always a pleasure coming back home because that what it feels like to me – home.”

As a journalist at the Herald Lolo’s target audience will be those who enjoy politics, investigating reporting and features, but added a similar newsroom meant covering a variety of news and different beats.

She will also write certain articles in isiZulu.

If you have a story for Lolo, please contact her at the Herald office on 034 981 3930.
