Forestdale community to host candlelight vigil for slain teen

Among other demands, Forestdale residents have called on SAPS to step up patrols in the area.

Tributes will be paid tonight to slain 13-year-old, Hope Jodie Fourie, who was stabbed to death on Saturday night.

Members of the Forestdale community and supporters will hold a memorial at 6pm for Jodie in Forestdale, before the group moves to the Commercial Road Bridge for a candlelight vigil at 7pm.

Jodie was stabbed in the head and chest while walking with a male friend on Saturday night. She died on the scene.

SAPS later arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the murder. The teen has since been released into the custody of his parents, pending further investigation.

Ruby van der Westhuizen, who led a march to the Dundee Police Station on Monday morning to call for justice for Jodie, said SAPS should step up patrols in the Commercial Road Bridge area and demanded, among others, that lighting in the area be improved,
