Driving schools and instructors celebrate their legality

The purpose of the event was to celebrate a victory, in a battle which has been ongoing in the driving school industry.

The Amajuba Driving School Association held its first ever recognition ceremony recently. The event celebrated driving schools and their instructors, who passed their formal examinations and qualified to be registered as legal driving schools and instructors by the Department of Transport.

A joyous Jeff Nkosi addresses the guests.

More than 40 candidates attended the ceremony from various areas in KZN, such as Dundee, Utrecht, Glencoe, Ladysmith, Bergville and Mooi River.
The purpose of the event was to celebrate a victory, in a battle which has been ongoing in the driving school industry.

“We had a very difficult time trying to convince the department to recognise us and our industry. As business owners, we felt it would only be fair that the by-laws of the country be followed in the correct manner, as negotiations for this project began in 2010 with our task team. Finally, we have done it,” exclaimed chairman, Jeff Nkosi.

He stated the majority of the driving schools currently functioning were running low on fuel, due to the fact that the other portion of driving schools were not registered and were thus deemed unfit to teach future South African road users. Nkosi believes this could cause complications in the long run.

“We have come across individuals who want to suppress driving schools and the business opportunities for the youth that come with it; hence why we started this incentive, to make a direct change and to ensure all of our visions are carried out through unity among business owners.”
