Risen Son Academy joins the war on plastic waste

Each child involved was given an empty two-litre plastic cooldrink bottle with their names on.

working towards promoting a cleaner environment at Risen Sun Academy, the school ha implemented its own ‘Cleanup Cadet’ project.

The project aims to promote mindfulness among the learners, regarding the negative effects of pollution on the environment, to encourage the children to clean p after themselves and to keep their surroundings free from litter.

Each child involved in the project was given an empty two-litre plastic cooldrink bottle with their names on.

The aim was to fill the bottle with plastic waste and, once the bottle was entirely filled, to hand it in at the school office in exchange for a ‘Cleanup Cadet’ certificate.

“We are teaching the children to keep the school properly clean by picking up after themselves’, said Principal, Henrietta Barry.

“When we have enough bottles, we are going to build a little wall around our veggie patch with them. This is how they will learn to recognise pollution around them and become a part of keeping the environment clean”.
