MEC condemns recent spate of shootings in Ladysmith

MEC Ntuli said that acts like these should be curbed, as they have the potential to destabilise the taxi industry and undo so much good work that has been done

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Mr Bheki Ntuli has strongly condemned the recent spate of killings that have rocked the taxi industry.

This comes in the wake of a shooting in Fairclough Road, Ladysmith, yesterday (November 21) that claimed two people’s lives.

A senior member of the Klipriver Taxi Association and one of his bodyguards died at the scene. Two others were rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

MEC Ntuli said that acts like these should be curbed, as they have the potential to destabilise the taxi industry and undo so much good work that has been done.

“I condemn these acts in the highest degree. As a department, we have been working tirelessly to ensure that we stabilise the taxi industry and avoid bloodshed. Killings have the potential to undo so much peace work that we have done,” said the MEC.

He continued that, “We have teams spread across the province working around the clock to ensure that we maintain a peaceful taxi industry. We want to send out a clear message that we do not tolerate such behaviour; we always advocate for people to sit down and talk and find amicable solutions to disputes, and avoid bloodshed.”
