Enviro Club sustains its success

Phumelelani Primary School’s Enviro Club is recognised for its involvement in environmental conservation

Phumelelani Primary School’s Enviro Club was awarded Global Sustainable Schools Status at the end of last month.
Phumelelani Primary is one of the top eight schools nationwide and the only school that represented uThukela District at a prestigious event that took place at Birches Pre-Primary School in Pinetown on October 31.

There were also representatives from Namibia and Uganda.

The club was accompanied by principal Mrs N Cebekhulu and Enviro co-ordinator Mrs S Mbele, and the status was awarded under ‘Global Environmental Strategies, One Planet, Handle With Care’, supported by the Ministry of the Environment in Japan.

Bridget Ringdahl and Julia Colvin from Water Explorers undertook a huge initiative in identifying and supporting schools that demonstrate sustainability in all spheres of environmental teaching, learning and management.

Phumelelani Primary is fully engaged in environmental programmes that aim to promote a healthy and environmentally conscious atmosphere that is conducive to teaching and learning.

The school actively pursues a policy of ‘environmental best practices’ in creating an environmentally sustainable future by including and improving the environmental components of the curriculum.
