Municipal staff tearful and angry after death of colleague

Mthandeni Ndaba Madela was electrocuted to death while working in Wembezi yesterday

Tears, anger and frustration are hanging in the air at a meeting of staff members at the Estcourt Town Hall this morning (November 15).

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality staff have convened a meeting to discuss, among others the tragic death of their colleague, Mthandeni Ndaba Madela, an electrician yesterday (November 14).

Staff expressed concerns about their safety, with all departments saying they don’t have appropriate safety gear.
Some staff members are in tears, lamenting for Mr Madela’s family, asking who will feed his children.

Some likened his death to that of a brother.

Staff members are airing various grievances, with a call for Municipal Manager Patrick Mkhize to step down. He is expected to arrive at 10am for the meeting.
