Manhunt launched for motorbike thief following shoot-out

Police are in hot pursuit of the second man

SAPS and security officers are in pursuit of a youngster, believed to be part of a group stealing motorbikes in the Endumeni area.

His accomplice was arrested by police following a brief shootout in on Nightingale Road, Peacevale, this morning.

Ruby Gopie, who lives on Nightingale Street, said two youngsters had taken refuge in a plot of vacant land in between houses on the street.

She described how a security officer pursued them. One of the youngsters fired at another Nightingale Street resident after which one of the suspects was tackled to the ground as he tried to make a run for it.

Officers from Qomfuka Security were joined by SAPS and members of other security companies. It appears as if the second man had made a dash towards Watt Road in his bid to escape arrest.

SAPS reported that two motorbikes were stolen from a home in Strathmore Park and another in another area. The stolen motorbikes are believed to be bound for Mozambique.
