Game farm owner Jacques van der Merwe has been clearing carcasses and recovering scores of snares on his farm, Slivyre Game Farm, on the R74.

In the past three weeks, 102 snares and 17 animal carcasses have been found. Mr van der Merwe and his team were recently able to save an nyala that was ensnared.

He believes that a group of people are setting the snares and hunting illegally with dogs, primarily to sell the meat.

The game farm has lost nyala, wildebeest, zebra, warthog and much more, and Mr van der Merwe calls this “a big
problem”.
