Okhahlamba Mayor sends condolences to families affected by deadly thunderstorms

Three families have been left grieving after the devastating effects of a thunderstorm

In the wake of the most recent death within the Okhahlamba Local Municipality, Mayor Mlungisi Ndlangisa has sent condolences to the families that are grieving losses.

After a devastating storm on Sunday afternoon, Sthembile Nothile Zimba from Mamfemfetheni (Ward 2) was killed by lightning.

Last Wednesday Thuleleni Mazibuko and Nonkululeko Mdluli from Magangangozi (Ward 3) were also struck by lightning and died.

One of the homes that was destroyed.

“On behalf of Okhahlamba Local Municipality, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Zimba family of Ward 2.
“A total of eight households were affected by the storm in that area.
“I have been in contact with the Provincial Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs and their teams are currently on the ground conducting assessments. Our municipality’s Fire and Emergency Rescue teams are also on the ground conducting assessments.
“I want to urge people to make use of our 24-hour emergency hotline: 0800 111 455 where our fire and emergency personnel are on standby to assist in all emergencies,” said Mr Ndlangisa.
