Facebook group seeks to unite Estcourtonians

Estcourt#united was initiated on the basis of 'good thoughts, good words, good deeds',

If you have not heard about the #ImStaying Facebook group, where have you been? It’s a social media platform that’s taking the world by storm, as South Africans declare why they are staying in the country.

The group began trending for interracial love posts, kind deeds, local quirks and everything else that makes South Africa great and unique.  Estcourt’s Adri Joubert Alborough was so inspired by the group that she decided to create Estcourt#united on October 13.

In just under a month, the group has grown, being joined by people who all love Estcourt, hope to restore its beauty, preserve its rich history and help make a difference with acts of kindness.

“So far, there has been a good response. I am so happy that so many people from Estcourt have shown an interest in the group. The important part of having the group is for people to reach out to others and share their feel-good stories about experiences with other people in Estcourt,” explained Mrs Alborough.

She added that she hopes locals begin interacting soon, and that positivity and unity is needed in the town of Estcourt.

The group description reads as follows: Estcourt #united is a group dedicated to men & women of all religions, creeds, races & cultures who remain loyal to Estcourt, KZN, South Africa. Please help us to honour all those who still believe that we, as a nation, can turn things around. Help us to focus on the people, positivity and beauty in South Africa, especially our beautiful little town, Estcourt. Let us be nice and kind to one another. Only post positive and uplifting stories, photos, videos and links. No political or religious posts please, as members in this group are from various backgrounds. We do not want any negativity; there are a lot of other places to discuss those topics. Let’s get to know each other and become a helping hand to those who need it. Reach out to the lonely and the heartbroken. Smile at and say a kind word to a stranger. Negative comments and posts will be removed. Members who are rude or nasty will be removed immediately and blocked from this group. This group has been inspired by the group #ImStaying. Thank you for choosing to be a part of our group.

At the beginning of this week, the group had a total of 315 members.  Group founder Mrs Alborough encourages people to join the group and share why they love Estcourt, listing a few reasons for staying in Estcourt.

So join the group now and get sharing as it spreads unity and positivity.
