Sector 1 CPF devises new plans against festive crime

The aim of the meeting, emphasised Ramdaw, was to engage with business owners and residents of these areas, to identify members to represent their area.

Sector 1 Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently held a meeting to elect its new committee and to strategise against crime ahead of the festive season.

Chairman of both the CPF mother body and Sector 1 CPF, Rajesh Ramdaw explained the structures in place when it came to the CPF.

“The CPF mother body is made up of five members, with the sub-sectors consisting of Sectors 1 to 6. Sector 1 covers the following areas; CBD, light industrial area, Paradise, Taxi City, Farmers Hall and all the way up to Whyte Street,” he said.

The aim of the meeting, emphasised Ramdaw, was to engage with business owners and residents of these areas, to identify members to represent their area.

“We need the community and CPF members to be the eyes and ears of the police. There is much crime taking place in Scott Street, Taxi City, the mosque arcade and the bottom of Murchison Street.”

Ramdaw stated that according to the statistics, drug abuse, thefts out of motor vehicle and shoplifting were prevalent in these areas.

“We are not promoting a vigilante committee, but rather one that can assist and work hand-in-hand with the police to fight crime and create a safe environment for the community,” he added.

Thereafter, a committee was chosen and members pledged their dedication to being active and creating awareness.

The Sector 1 CPF committee members are as follows:

Chairman – Rajesh Ramdaw.

Vice-chairman -Ismaile Dhalech.

Treasurer – Shamira Fakie.

P.R.O – Mary Dobbie.

Secretary – Nisha Ramraj.
