R13 million worth of plant equipment has been handed over to Uthukela District Municipality

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube began activities on October 22 with road inspection at the Bergville municipal interchange, where the roadworthiness of vehicles and permits were inspected.

The MEC was accompanied by uThukela District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko, Deputy Mayor NW Mchunu, Okhahlamba Mayor MG Ndlangisa, Alfred Duma Mayor Vincent Madlala, Inkosi Langalibalele Mayor Jabulile Mbele and Inkosi Sithole. The focus was on Transport & Productivity Month, which is aimed at ensuring safety and accountability for services provided by the provincial government.

The next activity of the day was a joint EXCO meeting held at the Okhahlamba Sports Complex, which emanated from the municipal assessment report that was compiled by the department.

The EXCO meeting also focused on the activities of Operation Khawuleza, which was launched at the Dukuza Sport Ground in Bergville, under Okhahlamba Local Municipality.

Mayor Mazibuko welcomed the community of Dukuza to the event and Inkosi Sithole pleaded with the community to take care of the machinery that was given to them.

In her keynote address, MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube communicated that provincial government was handing over R13 million worth of plant equipment in order to assist municipalities under uThukela District to fast-track service delivery.
The yellow metal machinery will assist in the battle to attend to service delivery challenges quicker.

The machines include two TLBs, two water tankers, an excavator, two walk-behind rollers, a grader, a waste compactor and a honeysucker.
