Ichthus scientists react well at regional expo

Principal of Ichthus, Helena Viljoen, congratulated the teachers and learners for the good scientific research which was conducted.

Grade 7 learners from Ichthus School participated in the regional Eskom Expo in Ladysmith in July 2019. They once again made the school very proud, bringing home bronze medals.

The learners thanked their teachers and parents, who assisted and guided them throughout the year. Some of the learners literally stepped out of their comfort zones.

The projects were:

Fun coloured food choices – Refiloe Motsepe and Noluthando Simelane. They conducted an investigation to determine if colour plays a role in food preferences and if different age groups have different reasons for their preferences.

Solar shower/devices – Sandisiwe Ncube and Musawenkosi Ngcobo. They investigated the best times of the day to use a solar-powered shower.

Mould Mystery – Alexa Wilken and Akabongwe Nkabinde. They performed tests on various foods to define the period taken for mould to form, so as to determine which food to consume first during electricity failures.

Dynamow – Mvelo Lembede and Lubanzi Mosia. They investigated ways to use a dynamo, in an attempt to generate electricity while running a lawnmower.

Flower Power – Bandile Zwane and Melize Visagie. They investigated the effects of climate change on flowers and which substance(s) to add to water to keep flowers fresh for longer.

Rethink/Recycle – Khwezi Molefe and Nhlosenhle Madela. They investigated the possibility of launching an awareness campaign at the school, to motivate families to recycle their waste material.

Principal of Ichthus, Helena Viljoen, congratulated the teachers and learners for the good scientific research which was conducted, and the staff and parents who assisted these learners!

Soli Deo Gloria!
