ACDP marches against new element of sexual education

The ACDP called for a public hearing about sexual education

On October 26, members of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) took to the streets.

Part of the memorandum reads as follows:
“The ACDP believes it is the responsibility of parents to teach their children about sex. Parents have the responsibility to protect the innocence of their children, and to teach them what is appropriate for their age regarding sex. For a number of years now, the Department of Basic Education has been teaching life skills and sex education during Life Orientation classes, and the ACDP did not have a problem with it because what was taught was age appropriate.”
Further, the ACDP said it believed understanding anatomy and biology was critical to the development of learners, but found plans to introduce CSE by 2020 was ‘unacceptable’.
It also decried ‘promoting of sexual pleasure and promiscuity as a right and an important component of sexual health.’
The ACDP also believed CSE would ‘encourage young children to experience sexually with individuals and their own sex or the opposite sex, and encourages the acceptance and exploration of diverse sexual orientation and gender identities among five to 10 year olds.’
