The Mdakane family home was destroyed when the roof of their house was blown off during a storm earlier this year.

79-year-old Mr Mdakane, his wife and their ill grandson had nowhere to call home, before King Langalibalele of the KwaBhekuzulu community reached out to the Icebolethu Foundation and asked for assistance to help the elderly couple.

African Unity offered financial assistance, with Icebolethu overseeing construction and furnishing of the house, which was handed over to the family at a ceremony where King Langalibalele, the community of KwaBhekuzulu, as well as sponsors African Unity and Icebolethu Funerals attended.

Herman Lombard, founder and executive director of African Unity, says that,

“As a company, we have embraced the value of being part of creating a better future for all South Africans, which is why we have purposefully instilled a sense of ‘African Unity’ among our staff, as well as the different organisations and communities we invest in.”
