In the spirit of World Mental Health Awareness Month, Mediclinic Newcastle Kintsugi Centre hosted its annual Emoji Run on Saturday.

‘Run with your emotions’ was the theme of the day, and participants were encouraged to dress up as their favourite emoji ahead of the run.

The aim of the event was not only to have fun, but promote mental health and quell the stigma surrounding it.

Posters made by staff depicted words of encouragement for people who suffer from mental health.

The message was clear: ‘you are not alone’.

Staff and members of the public also showed their support as they took on the 4,5 kilometre walk.

The first 100 participants received a badge and prizes for winners in each category were awarded as follows:

First place: Ndumiso Sithole.

Second place: Zethu Mnyandu.

Third place: Naazneen Bana.
