uThukela Deputy Mayor NW Mchunu, accompanied by Speaker PG Strydom and the team from Environment Health, paid an unannounced visit to two shops in Illing Road recently.
The purpose was to check whether the products on the shelves had reached their expiry date. It was found that some of the products had indeed expired and were removed.
The owners were advised to call the suppliers to come and take them away.

One shop owner was issued with a R2500 fine for generally poor housekeeping.
Thereafter, the team went to Cremen (Ward 24), where a community engagement meeting was held. They were joined by Ward Councillor Nxumalo, Cllr Mlotshwa, Ward Secretary Mr Shabalala and Cllr Zikalala.
According to uThukela, these meetings aim to provide solutions to the issues of water shortages and sanitation provision. Responding to these issues, Cllr Strydom informed the community that, as uThukela District Municipality, they have made an assessment with regards to water provision in the area.
He added that phase one of the water project is complete and that they will start phase two soon. According to uThukela, the community was pleased with the progress made by the District.
