Local singing star sadly now out of Idols SA

Her fans are all hoping this is just a minor setback and will spur her on to chase her dream even harder

It was a sad day on Sunday, October 13, for local singing sensation Mmangaliso Gumbi and all her fans, as she was eliminated from Idols SA. 24-year-old Mmangaliso, who hails from the Watersmeet area of Ladysmith, had successfully made it into the top 7 in the competition.

She has a passion for music and when she was just three years old, she stood up at a wedding ceremony and started singing. Her favourite musical genres are Afro Soul, Jazz and Gospel, which she feels emotionally connected to.

Her favourite singer is India Arie. Her favourite song? ‘I Want To Dance With Somebody’ by Whitney Houston.

Through music, Mmangaliso wants to get herself on as many platforms as possible and would like to someday even teach music to others.

Last Sunday, Mmangaliso had the lowest number of votes on Idols SA, bringing tears to the eyes of many fans.

Her fans are all hoping this is just a minor setback and will spur her on to chase her dream with even more determination. “Mmangaliso, you will always be a star in our eyes and well done on getting so far in this singing competition. You definitely made your hometown proud!” said one local Idols follower.
