Watch: Fire ravages storage shed behind house in Mimosa Road, Ladysmith

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze and managed to put it out before it spread to the house

A fire engulfed a storage shed behind a house in Mimosa Road yesterday (October 17), with thick black smoke billowing up into the air.

The Ladysmith Fire Department, Public Safety, police and emergency personnel rushed to the scene to battle the fierce flames in intensely hot weather conditions.

Speaking to a family member, she says that before the fire department arrived at the scene, they tried to battle the blaze themselves with a hosepipe as the storage shed contained business equipment. The equipment was destroyed in the fire.

The firefighters quickly contained the blaze and managed to put it out before it spread to the house.

A large crowd of onlookers gathered at the scene to see what was going on.

Luckily, no injuries were sustained and none of the occupants of the house were there at the time.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
