Police nab alleged hijackers in Ladysmith area

The suspects will appear again in court early next week

Three suspects made a brief appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday (October 14). The trio stand accused of hijacking and being in possession of an illegal firearm.

On Sunday (October 13), officers from the Ladysmith Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit followed up on information regarding a stolen vehicle. The vehicle had been stolen in Besters during July this year. When officers intercepted the vehicle, there were three occupants inside. The suspects were immediately arrested.

On searching the vehicle, a shotgun was found.

Officers also found the key for a Toyota vehicle on one of the suspects.

Further interrogation linked the suspects to the hijacking of a car carrier from which a Toyota and a Honda had been stolen the night before. The incident took place on the N11. The suspects pointed out the location of both vehicles to the police. The Honda had been involved in an accident.

The suspects have been remanded into police custody and will appear again in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court early next week.
