UPDATE: 1 dead in Alfred Street shooting

An official from the taxi association, who did not want to be named for the fear of victimisation, said: “The deceased infiltrated the taxi business. He just took over routes and was an illegal taxi boss, with no papers or anything. The police were made aware of this as well.”

With that said, the motive behind the deadly shooting remains unknown.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan explained: “Estcourt detectives are investigating a case of murder and no arrests have been made as yet.” At the time of going to print, W/O Khan was still awaiting further information concerning the operation that took place at the Estcourt Taxi Rank on Friday where dozens of people were searched.

Alfred Street employee Mr Sookoo described the scene as that of an ‘action movie’ that left him and fellow co-workers shaken up.
