More than 4000 people attended Saturday’s memorial event and this included leaders from Mpendle, the Western Cape, as well as the Swazi and Zuma royal families.

In his address, King Langalibalele II announced that free computer classes will be available to locals after a generous donation of 20 computers from the Communication Department that will be installed at the amaHlubi Community Service Centre.

He also mentioned that investment opportunities were in the pipeline, and listed a shopping centre and farming.
The memorial event primarily serves to remember the life of King Langalibalele, who was imprisoned on Robben Island.

“The event also serves to bring the amaHlubi nation together, because they were dispersed by the apartheid regime, and to educate them about the culture and other important ceremonies,” said event organiser and spokesperson Wiseman Ngobese.

The day was sweetened when the Gift of the Givers, Estcourt branch, distributed 100 food parcels to the attendees.
