One confirmed dead in three-vehicle crash

Officials have confirmed the victim was an employee at Buffalo Coal.

One man was killed in a collision on the Nyanyadu road this morning, involving three vehicles. The incident occurred near the sewage works at around 6am.

The man, who has not yet been named, was an employee at Buffalo Coal, as has been confirmed by mine officials. A colleague, who was travelling in the same vehicle, had to be freed by rescue workers after becoming entrapped in the wreckage. He is believed to have suffered several fractures.

A woman, also said to be a Buffalo Coal employee, was travelling in another vehicle involved in the crash and was also injured. Witnesses told the Courier the collision appeared to have occurred on a bend. SAPS and paramedics were said to have responded promptly to the scene.

The cause of the collision is not known at this time and is subject to official investigations.

The Courier extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.
