Dedicated volunteers offer medical services to over 200 patients

the patients were appropriately referred for followups to be conducted in the near future

The Islamic Medical Association of South Africa (IMASA), Ladysmith branch, went out of their way to provide medical help to the community of Emoyeni District in Loskop on September 15. Appreciating the clear sky, fresh air and the tabletop in the background known as Champagne Castle, branch partners Nazpre and the Al-Imdaad Foundation donated water, health packs and walking sticks to the community.

Dedicated volunteers such as optometrists, dentists and primary healthcare physicians offered their services to almost 250 patients, screening across different sectors.

The audiology team was led by Sameera Asmal and Dr Mahomed Sardiwalla, while the dentists on duty were Dr Ridwaan Nabie and Dr Mahomed Sader. A startling statistic was that, of the 35 patients who requested hearing screening, 25 had an abnormality, ie 70%.

It did not end there, as the patients were appropriately referred for followups to be conducted in the near future.

A huge thank you to the Al-Imdaad Foundation, Nazeeha Asmal, the volunteers, IEC Grade 11 learners and educators, the Bonakuhle school team and local councillor Mr Dlangalala.
