Outdoor Spring Fling gets the blood pumping

Van Rooyen said visiting the children's home had opened the team's eyes to how much support was needed, and prompted JustGym to become involved on a more regular basis.

The celebration of a new season and the blessing of charity. JustGym Newcastle’s Outdoor Spring Fling, hosted at the Newcastle Corner parking area, combined these masterfully on Saturday morning.

Neil van Rooyen, co-owner of the gym elaborated on the concept: “Every year, JustGym Newcastle has outdoor classes to celebrate spring. We invite the community to participate and amid this year’s planning, we became involved with Môrester Children’s Home and spent Mandela Day there.”

This laid the foundation for the revised Outdoor Spring Fling event. Van Rooyen said visiting the children’s home had opened the team’s eyes to how much support was needed, and prompted JustGym to become involved on a more regular basis.

“We decided to make it a charity event; the same concept but for a cause.”

JustGym partnered with Team Leaving a Legacy – the charity group headed by Susan Pitout – and Newcastle Corner to drive the donation of groceries, toys, toiletries and more for Morester. Residents can also make a pledge on the Leaving a Legacy web page.

“We are ready to have fun and there’s a good turnout today,” added van Rooyen. “Thanks also to RocoMamas which sponsored vouchers for the first 50 people to make a donation.”

On the physical side of things, the Outdoor Spring Fling included spinning classes, toning and shaping workouts and general fitness sessions.
