KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service paramedics responded and arrived to find that a light motor vehicle had veered off the road and rolled into a river. It is believed that the driver lost control.

The occupant of the vehicle sustained critical injuries and was trapped in the car. The vehicle was partially submerged, upside down, in ice-cold water. Bystanders helped by keeping the driver’s head out of the water until emergency services arrived.

The patient was freed by Bergville Protection Services and stabilised by paramedics at the scene. A medical helicopter was ‘activated’ to fly the patient to hospital for further treatment.
