Dannhauser protesters threaten to ‘shut down’ like Newcastle

Protesters plan to bring the town to a standstill, should they receive no joy after today's planned march.

The Dannhauser Community Development Forum have organised a mass protest march in Dannhauser. Northern KZN Courier journalist, Byron Pillay is currently at the scene.

“Community members from the town and outlying wards gathered in central town. They have placards and are calling for proper service delivery,” he reported. “The also want lifestyle audits done on municipal officials.”

Organisers of the protest are adamant it will be peaceful, and even though tyres are being set on fire on roads entering the town from the Durnacol and Newcastle directions, people are being allowed in and out of town.

“Protesters want to hand over a memorandum to a CoGTA official at the municipality later. They have promised to shut down Dannhauser like Newcastle in future if they receive no joy. All stores are currently closed.”
