‘Dirty Dundee’ gives the town a poor ‘green report’

'We all need to work together to ensure Dundee is a town we can be proud of'

September marks Heritage Month. Care for the environment – along with Arbor Month – has been highlighted by the Courier in recent weeks.

And it was with this in mind that the Courier took an early morning ‘swing’ through Dundee to see how our environment is being cared for.

Sadly, the Green Report Card reads very badly. From the usual littering in Coronation Park – which this morning only a lone dog could appreciate – to the rubbish discarded on Victoria and Beaconsfield Streets, the environment looks very poorly indeed.

The continual destruction of the Dundee Junior Secondary School on Oldcare Street – which the Education Department abandoned over a year ago in spite of promises to upgrade the facility – continues to be an eyesore.

“Clearly, a lot needs to be done to show that Dundonians do indeed care and we would like all business people and the community to work together to turn Dundee a town to be proud of,” commented Naresh Gopie, Tourism Dundee chairman.
