Residents left without water for three days in a row

Councillor Bebsie Cronje said the municipality was experiencing major issues with the Signal Hill reservoir, which supplies water to these areas.

Residents in the Signal Hill, Aviary Hill and the top end of Victoria Road have had no water supply for the past three days.

Ward Councillor, Bebsie Cronje, said the municipality was experiencing major issues with the Signal Hill reservoir, which supplies water to these areas.

“I have been in contact with the SED regarding that reservoir and he assured me that the water will be restored to your areas by 1am tomorrow morning (September 19),” explained Cllr Cronje.

Cllr Cronje said she has been in constant communication with the SED and reported back to residents via social media.

“According to the SED, one of the pumps overheated this morning when they opened it. The manager is going now from one pump to the other to make sure that all are working. However there is air in the pipes and once the pumps are operating correctly they will first have to open all fire hydrants to get the air out and then water will be restored,” she reported.

She later communicated that one of the two pumps which pump water to Signal Hill was not working, and visited the site where the team was attempting to fix the problem.
