WARNING: Newcastle to face possible water cuts

Meiring advised residents to collect water for domestic use and reminds them to switch off geysers.

Parts of Newcastle – such as Hilldrop and Signal Hill – have already experienced a lack of water, with some taps running dry.

A message received from DA Councillor, Bertie Meiring read: “The water pump pumping water to Signal Hill reservoir is switched off again as there is not enough bulk water coming from Uthukela [Water].”

In the message, Meiring confirmed the reservoir in Hilldrop was also empty. He said this would affect areas of town, and it was uncertain how long it would take for the reservoirs to refill.

He advised residents to collect water for domestic use and reminded them to switch off geysers, to ensure they were not switched on without water inside.

The Newcastle Advertiser is in contact with the municipality regarding the water issues, and an update will be provided as soon as more information is available.
