Khazin’s case postponed… again

Shange previously stated in court that he went to Khazin’s on the night in question to ‘meet friends and have a good time’.

The case against Khethani Shange, who is accused of shooting and killing two security personnel at Khazin’s Shisanyama on June 15, has been postponed yet again, this time to October 2.

Shange made a brief appearance in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on September 3.

He is facing two murder charges and one attempted murder charge, and is currently out on R10 000 bail.

At Shange’s previous court appearance, Magistrate Khuzwayo attached certain conditions to his bail, including the surrendering of his travel documents to Sergeant Sewlal from SAPS.

Following last Tuesday’s appearance, his bail conditions remain the same.

Mag Khuzwayo instructed Shange to attend every court appearance he was due for, and to report to the Madadeni Police Station’s charge office on Wednesday and Friday each week.

Shange was also barred from entering the Khazin’s premises or making contact with any of the State’s witnesses.
If he failed to abide by these conditions, he would be arrested.

Shange previously stated in court that he went to Khazin’s on the night in question to ‘meet friends and have a good time’.

He claimed the guards attacked and savagely beat him, although this was disputed by the investigating officer.

Sgt Sewlal said in a previous court hearing: “There was no indication the applicant was provoked.  On June 15, around 8pm, the applicant went to the entrance of Khazins in Section 6, Madadeni. His face was covered in something white and he wore a black hat. Only his eyes were visible. This person produced a firearm and fired shots in the small passage of the entrance premises. He directed the shots at the guards; two were fatally wounded and passed away on scene…”

This latest postponement of proceedings was due to a need for further investigation.
