Ladysmith police make 2 arrests and recover firearms, ammunition and drugs

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner has commended the police officers for the arrests and recoveries during the operation

A 52-year-old man was arrested and has appeared in court after being found in possession of firearms, ammunition and drugs.

Ladysmith SAPS and Public Order Policing (POP) officers pounced on the man’s residence in Nyezane during an operation in the Amangwe area on Tuesday (August 27).

The man was found in possession of two firearms, a rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition, as well as a pistol with 36 rounds of ammunition. He was also found in possession of 190 kilograms of dagga.

The dagga was stored in plastic drums and has an estimated street value of R95,000.

The suspect was taken into police custody and appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (August 28). He faces charges of being in illegal possession of firearms / ammunition and possession of dagga.

During the same operation, a 24-year-old woman from Mandabeni was arrested for being in possession of a revolver. She also appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for illegal possession of a firearm.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, has commended the police officers for the arrests and recoveries.
