Enviro Walk encourages residents to clean up

'We must all take responsibility for the cleanliness of our town," said Naresh Gopie of Tourism Dundee.

The Dalai Lama once said ‘A clean environment is a human right like any other right’. These wise words were enacted upon at Saturday’s Enviro Walk, which began in the much-maligned Coronation Park.

Hosted by Dundee-based environmental firm, 9ZeroSeven Environmental (907), the walk aimed to create awareness on the damage indiscriminate littering does to the environment. 907’s Ndumiso Dlamini told walkers littering does not only impact the aesthetics of a town, but also human health.

Naresh Gopie of Tourism Dundee also lent his support to the initiative and was impressed by the number of young people who joined the walk.

“We need everyone to assist in the fight to keep our town clean. We cannot expect the municipality to clean up after we leave a mess,” he elaborated.

Refuse bags were given to the walkers, who were happy to pick up litter as they made their way from the park to the Dundee Horse Racing Track and back again.
