Four men, who murdered a police officer in cold blood three years ago, were finally sentenced in the Mtubatuba High Court last Tuesday.

Captain Nkosenye Welcome Ntombela, an Ulundi detective, was off duty when he and an employee from Phakode Supermarket fell victim to an armed robbery by four gun wielding gang of men, who stormed the shop demanding cash.
Cpt Ntombela was shot and killed while the supermarket employee was wounded.

Cases of murder, attempted murder and business robbery were opened at the Nongoma Police Station shortly afterwards, and were all allocated to the Hawks’ Richards Bay’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit.
