Man claims tokoloshes beat him up in Nquthu

Despite the skepticism which met his tale, Mr Mbatha maintains is is true: "I have no reason to lie."

Sipho Mbatha saw his late father in hospital after he was beaten up by a gang of tokoloshes.

Friends of the 43-year-old were stunned – and mostly skeptical – at the story told to them during Mr Mbatha’s stay in the Charles Johnson Memorial Hospital in Nquthu after what he described as a ‘living nightmare’. Mr Mbatha’s ordeal began after a function in the Zicole area on Saturday.

“I was attacked and kidnapped by a gang of tokoloshes, who assaulted me near a river in the Ndatshana area. My late grandmother, Mantshangase Skhosana, appeared on the river bank and tried to save me.”

Mr Mbatha said his grandmother warned him to immediately leave the river.

“Everything was magical. Tokoloshes appeared out of nowhere; they hit me in the face and disappeared again. After realising I was safe from the tokoloshes, I ran back home.”

Mr Mbatha then flagged down a police vehicle and was transported to hospital for treatment of his injuries.
