Cops uncover stash of dagga and firearms

Two arrests, four firearms and 190kgs of dagga recovered in Loskop

Police scored success during operations held in Loskop yesterday (August 27).

Led by the Public Order Police from Ladysmith, a team swooped in on a 52-year-old man in the Nyezane area.

“He was found in possession of two firearms, a rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition as well as a pistol with 36 rounds of ammunition. The man was also found in possession of 190 kilograms of dagga,” commented police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker.

The confiscated dagga, which was stored in plastic drums, has an estimated street value of R95 000.

“The man was taken into police custody. He appeared in the Bergville Magistrates Court today (August 28). He faces charges for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of dagga,” added Brig Naicker.

Lightning struck twice when police officers arrested a 24-year-old female from Emandabeni after finding her in possession of a revolver. The woman was charged for illegal possession of a firearm and appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court today.
